About SAQA Atlantic

SAQA - Atlantic Canada is a regional chapter of the international organization Studio Art Quilt Associates. SAQA was founded in 1989 to serve artists working in the art quilt medium, as well as teachers, collectors, gallery owners, museum curators and corporates sponsors who recognize the importance of the Art Quilt. Its mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development and publications.

SAQA defines an Art Quilt as "as a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure."

The Atlantic Canada chapter is open to all residents of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. In addition, members of other chapters who have a special interest in the region may designate SAQA-Atlantic Canada as a secondary chapter.

SAQA-Atlantic Canada has organized several traveling exhibitions to showcase our members works across the region. They are:  Rooted (2012), Structures (2015- 2016), Transitions (2018-2019) and Commotions (2021-2023). We are currently organizing our next Regional Exhibit, “Navigating” which will travel throughout our region in 2024-2026.
